"Filcanki" part 1

Felt bookmark on book corners

I would like to welcome you on the first lesson of sewing from felt. Usually these would be decorations or (more or less) utility stuff.

First thing we will do is a simple bookmark to be put on page corner. It looks like that:

You can make different shapes

The idea is to partialy sew two pieces of felt to make some sort of a 'pocket', that can be put on page corner as a bookmark.

What we will need:

  • a sheet of felt
  • Thin yarn or thread
  • Scissors

First we need to decide on the bookmark shape - it can be simple triangle or something more fun like heart or animal face :)

Next, we cut the felt sheet to get:

  • two corner elements of the same size
  • any additional parts for decoration, for example ears
PSP

Just get the two pieces and sew it together!

Decorate the front element according to your needs. Add eyes or nose and sew on the ears.
All stitching and knots should be hidden on the inner side obviously.
At the end we sew front and back parts on two perpendicular edges leaving the 'pocket' open.

Final result

This type of bookmark has one flaw though: it is not a good choice for books with thin pages.
I assume this would be great for children books - those with thick sheets.
I've got an impression, that in case regular paper pages it can damage or tear the pages if you lack caution.
Anyway, I would recommend it as a simple felt craftwork.
